In 2014, Amsterdam brought in the big guns, appointing Neelie Kroes, the former European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda, as Special Envoy for Startups. Over the last two years, the startup ecosystem has taken centre stage in Amsterdam, with mammoth efforts being made to coordinate public and private resources. In addition, a number of international tech giants have made Amsterdam the centerpiece of their European strategy: Tesla, Facebook, and Google are just a few of the major tech companies in Amsterdam.
